Last month, this series highlighted the meteoric rise of Benny Goodman,
the classically trained Jewish clarinet prodigy from Chicago.
Goodman had been so turned on by the dynamism and swing of 1920s
in his home town that
his own commercial rebranding of it was to make
him a global pop star in the next decade - despite, or maybe because of,
the catastrophic downturn of the Great Depression.
